Razer, the company which is known for gaming products, has launched its first smartphone — Razer Phone. It is aimed at hardcore gamers and comes with high-end specifications and desktop gaming technologies built-in.
The design of the device is nothing like what most smartphone manufacturers are currently offering. While most OEMs are now designing smartphones with curved designs, the Razer Phone is a 8mm-thick monolithic slab.
The smartphone features a 5.72-inch LCD screen with Quad HD resolution. It has wide color gamut and 120Hz refresh rate — making it the first smartphone available with display’s refresh rate at 120Hz. There is also a layer of Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection.
As per the company, the phone uses an adaptive refresh technology which syncs the GPU and the display to ensure lag-free performance at high frame rates without compromising the battery life.
Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, accompanied with 8GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. There is a microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity.
For photography, the Razer Phone sports a dual camera setup on the back. While the primar lens is of 12-megapixel with aperture f/1.75, the secondary lens is of 13-megapixel of f/2.6 aperture. On the front, it houses an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture.
The smartphone is powered by a big 4,000mAh battery that also supports Quick Charge 4.0+. It also includes stereo front-facing speakers with Dolby Atmos support.
In terms of the software, the smartphone runs on a stock Android Nougat 7.1.1 with Google Assistant and the premium version of the Nova Launcher pre-loaded. The company says that it will update the device to Android Oreo next year.
While the phone lacks the 3.5mm audio jack, it comes with a 3.5mm to USB-C audio connector with a 24-bit DAC. There is a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button itself.
