Vivo has launched the world’s first smartphone that comes with in-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone was showcased at the recently held Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 tech exhibition event earlier this month.
The phone uses Clear ID FS9500 optical fingerprint sensor from Synaptics. At the announcement during CES 2018 Vivo said that its In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology outperforms other authentication solutions available for full-screen smartphones in many aspects.
The Vivo X20 Plus UD comes with a 6.43-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 660 14nm processor having four 2.2GHz Kryo 260 cores and four 1.8GHz Kryo 260 CPUs, coupled with Adreno 512 GPU.
The phone packs 4GB RAM and 128GB internal memory, and has a microSD card slot for expandable memory up to 256GB. It features a 12MP rear camera with LED flash, f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and a 5MP secondary camera on the back. There is also a 12MP front-facing camera with soft LED flash and f/2.0 aperture.
As mentioned, the helighlight of the device is that it comes with a fingerprint sensor that is embedded into the display. The company advises to only use thin screen protectors that are provided with the phone. Using thick tempered glass may create issues with fingerprint sensor to work correctly.
Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS. It is powered by a 3,905mAh battery which also supports fast charging technology.
The Vivo X20 Plus UD will be available in Black color with Gold-colored accents on the frame and around the rear camera. It is priced at 3,598 yuan ($568 / Rs. 36,090) and will be available in China from 1st February. It will be available for pre-orders from 29th January.
